2.1-megapixel ClearVid CMOS sensor: This imaging device provides stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video (1080 lines of resolution, HD mode or 530 lines of horizontal resolution, SD mode) and still image performance (4-megapixel). Unlike traditional CCD imagers, CMOS sensors require less power, providing better battery performance.
HDVD recording format : The HDR-UX5 is capable of recording and playing back both high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) video recorded on a standard 3" (8cm) DVD media. It uses AVCHD compression technology which is far more efficient than standard definition MPEG-2— offering both reduced storage requirements and better video quality.
DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) compatible: The HDR-UX5 is compatible with a variety of DVD formats allowing the ease of use and simplicity found in DVD media. With DVD+RW media there is no need to finalize the disc (minimum recording required). Simply remove the finalized disc and insert the media into a compatible Blu-Ray Disc™ Player.
2.7" wide touch-panel LCD: This 2.7" LCD swivels up to 270° for easy viewing from multiple angles. Plus, you can switch between regular and widescreen shooting with the touch of a button.
Smooth slow recording: A record rate of up to 240 fields per second allows you to capture three seconds of fast motion and play the video back in 12 seconds—great for analyzing a golf swing or a viewing a bird in flight.
Zoom: The 10x optical zoom helps to bring the action close up from far away. Plus, 20x digital zoom interpolation means that extreme digital zooming is clearer, with less distortion.
Professional Carl Zeiss® Vario-Sonner® T* lens: This advanced lens delivers vivid images and true-to-life color saturation. Additional coating blocks out unwanted glare and flare.
Image stabilization: Super SteadyShot® uses motion sensors to ensure a smooth and steady picture.
Playback: After finalizing the disc in the camcorder, the disc can play back in most DVD players (SD), computers, Blu-Ray Disc™ players and even PlayStation® 3 video game consoles.
Media slot: Capture still images, directly onto Memory Stick Duo™ Media for easy transfer to PCs for e-mailing, printing or sharing with other compatible Memory Stick® media compatible devices.
